Tips for Pedestrians

The following rules for pedestrians can help prevent accidents.
Use crosswalks. But be careful. Drivers are supposed
to stop if your foot is in the crosswalk, but they don't always stop.

Do not cross in the middle of the street. Drivers do not expect you. Never run
out from between parked cars.

Do not walk in the street if there is a sidewalk. If you must walk in the street,
always walk on the left side, facing cars as they drive toward you.

Do not wear dark clothing at night. When walking or jogging at night, always
where something white or light colored. It will make it easier for drivers to see
you.

Watch out for entrances to parking lots. Sidewalks often cross driveways and
entrances to parking lots. Always check to see if a car is coming out or going into
the parking lot.

Be careful getting out of cars. Sometimes when you get out of a car, you open
the door into a lane of traffic. Always check to be sure there are no cars
coming. Drivers in other cars do not expect your car door to open suddenly.
