A Letter to My Country

by Lee Shimoni, Amal Comprehensive School for Sciences and Arts, Hadera

My dear, beautiful country,
Thank you for everything you have given us,
Your minerals, your trees and your flowers.
Thank you for the houses you let us build on you,
For the water you keep inside you for us to drink,
For everything you have done for us.
I want to say sorry, too.
Sorry for all we have done to you,
All the wars that ruined you,
All the trash we put on you,
All the horrors that we, and all the others who had lived here before,
Have done to you.
I wish that all the bad things we have done to you
would not happen ever again,
And that you would continue to do all the things,
that you have so far done for us.
I also hope that we will always be together,
And that everybody will treat you with respect like you certainly deserve.
So goodbye for now, until the next time,

Love you always,
Lee
