by Erik Yavnik, Amal Aleph Comprehensive School, Ramla

This movie is an exciting thriller-detective story. The action is going on in the capitol of China, Peking. The main character, played by Richard Gere, is accused of killing a beautiful Chinese model. He was found by police in her aparment where she was lying dead. The police are holding him under arrest because they have all the evidence that he is the murderer. He doesn't remember what happened to him because he was drunk, but he remembers some of the details before he passed out. He is confident he didn't kill this woman. He is a foreigner in this country and he doesn't have any friends. That makes his case more complicated.

He tried to apply to the American Embassy, but they didn't do much to help him. They just told him that everything would be all right. He was defended by a young woman lawyer. At the beginning of the investigation, she believed that he was guilty. He convinced her and proved to her that he was innocent. This case turned into an international scandal. Richard Gere's character tried to go on fighting and not give up. The case is very sophisticated and the end of the movie is very shocking, because we don't expect this kind of ending. So if you really want to be in suspense for a couple of hours, you have to see this movie.

Natan Greenberg, a tenth grader, shares his opinion about the film. "I think that this is a special film, where we see what can happen to innocent people. Richard Gere surprises us with his acting. We haven't seen him in such roles before. In this movie, after "The Jackal" he tries to teach us not to give up in any situation; even when there seems to be no way out."

So, if you like thrillers, and you want to see Richard Gere at his best, spend the 25 NIS and see "The Red Corner."
