RESPECT & TOLERANCE - LESSON PLANS
LESSON 1: AGREEMENT OF RESPECT
(This lesson does not require the use of computers)
- Set induction:(individually) Complete the following sentence:
"For me respect means........"
- Listen to some students’ answers.
- Think of an incident from your past associated with respect. Choose from the following:
- when you showed someone else respect.
- when someone showed you respect.
- when you hurt someone or when you were hurt by someone.
- when you witnessed someone hurting someone else.
- when you witnessed someone showing respect for someone else.
- Have a short class discussion following students’ answers.
- Think of synonyms for "respect". [honour ; dignity]
Check the definitions of "respect", "dignity" and "honour" in the dictionary and copy them into your folders.
What is the difference between these words?
- When we deal with "respect" it’s a good idea to make an "agreement of respect".
- Brainstorming: What should we include in such an agreement?
Teacher writes students’ answers on board.
- Class discussion: What is the connection between expectations, respect and learning?
- Students are asked to write their expectations from the teacher, their fellow students, the English lessons.
- The class makes "an agreement" which is written on a poster and hung on the wall.
